Hidden Path Entertainment
has released an expansion pack for their HD remake of Age of Empires 2
. The Forgotten
is the first expansion to the real-time strategy game since The Conquerors
was released way back in 2000.
The expansion provides five new civilizations for players to guide to supremacy. The Italians, Indians, Slavs, Magyars and Incas are each accompanied by new strategic options. These civilizations collectively add over 30 new technologies and 9 new units.
Players can test their mettle in four new campaigns that star Sforza, Dracula and other colorful characters from history:
- Alaric: The trauma of the Hun invasion in the 4th century has shaped Alaric, the fearsome warrior king of the Goths. But can the beloved king secure a new homeland for his people in the territory of the collapsing Roman Empire?
- Sforza: Always hungry for glory and wealth, Sforza wanders around 15th century Italy, offering his services to the highest bidder. Will he pick the right battles or make the wrong enemy? Take the fate of the young mercenary captain in your hands.
- Bari: 400 years after the collapse of the Roman Empire, Italy is still up for grabs. Relive the tale of the port city Bari from the point of view of a Byzantine family, rising from the common soldiery to the nobility. Beware, for not only Bari is at stake, but also control of Southern Italy.
- Dracula: History forged an incredible legend around the man who ruled Wallachia in the mid-14th century. Holding his ground against the vast armies of the expanding Ottoman Empire, his cruel tactics made him the most feared man in all of Eastern Europe. Shall his thirst for blood and the loyalty of his soldiers hold the Turks back for good?
Hidden Path has also introduced two new modes. Treaty, seen in later Age of Empires
games, gives players a grace period at the start of a match. They can build up their civilization without worrying about a rush attack from their opponents. Capture the Relic, meanwhile, tasks civilizations with grabbing a treasure using their monks and returning it to their base.
The expansion is also loaded with a bunch of smaller features to enhance the game. Twitch.tv integration allows players to broadcast their matches to others, who can watch the action via spectator mode. If you're looking for a very long match, you can opt for a "LudaKRIS" size for the map. Players can now share mods for the game through Steam Workshop as well.
