One of the first games being released in 2012 is Armored Core V. Namco Bandai has decided to remind gamers of the mech combat game by sending out a flood of screenshots.

Armored Core V won't be a direct sequel to AC4. Instead, it's intended as a reboot of the series. It would be the third reboot in total. Unlike its predecessor, AC5 is said to focus more on strategy than twitch reflexes.

The basic premise of AC V is the same as previous installments, though: you're piloting a big mech outfitted with a ridiculous arsenal. The screenshots show mechs firing a cannon so large it needs a bipod. Other shots depict a missile launcher that fires projectiles as large as the mech itself.

AC V will hit the Xbox 360 and PS3 on January 3rd in North America.
