Rumors have been swirling this weekend that action RPG Diablo III will be arriving the first week of February. However, Blizzard denied today that any firm release date has been set for the game.

It seems a Best Buy in Minnesota (via Joystiq) has a sign stating that the game will arrive on February 1st. The web store for Best Buy states the same thing. UK retailer GamePlay, meanwhile, states that the game will arrive there on Friday, February 3rd.

So, a February 1st launch date for North America and a February 3rd launch for Europe? Not quite.

"Diablo III does not have a release date. Any store or person claiming otherwise is guessing," tweeted Blizzard community manager 'Bashiok' this afternoon. Also, that store in Minnesota took down their sign and told Joystiq that it had been made in-house. They decided to take down the sign because the manufacturer (Activision Blizzard) has been "not very firm" about the date.

While the thought of getting Diablo III in less than a month is really pleasing, I have doubts that we'll see it that quickly. I'd think Blizzard would like to announce the release date further in advance so that they have ample time to apply all of their marketing muscle to it.
