Sega announced that the closed beta for World War 2 real-time strategy Company of Heroes 2 will start next week on Steam. The beta will begin with an early access period for pre-order customers.

Company of Heroes 2 depicts the Eastern Front of World War 2. Players can take on the role of either the Russian or German forces in this bloody conflict. The cold, snowy weather plays a big role in the battles.

CoH 2 was originally going to be published by THQ. However, the company went bankrupt and was forced to sell the game and developer Relic Entertainment to Sega. Sega is now planning to release the game in June.

The closed beta lets players try out six multiplayer maps. Four of the maps were previously featured in the alpha test. The two new additions allow players to battle it out along the Oka River or on the outskirts of Moscow.

These maps can be played in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 matches. Players will have the option of playing against human or A.I. opponents. They'll be able to experience part of the game's progression system, as well as the Army Customizer.

The beta's first phase is restricted to pre-order customers. The next phase will allow additional players to join in. Further information on the beta will be announced through the game's website.
