Calling all pagans, heathens and rebels; Crusader Kings II is gearing up to launch “The Old Gods” DLC, bringing a variety of faiths and their civilizations to Paradox Interactive and Paradox Development Studio’s strategy roleplaying game.

According to a statement form Paradox, The Old Gods will add a number of features fans of Crusader Kings II have been requesting, including the ability to rule an empire of Pagans or Zoroastrians. The new DLC will also push the in-game reign back to the year 867 AD to help accommodate this ancient religions.

“In the year 867, the old gods were still mighty,” states a prepared statement from Paradox. “In England, the Raven Banner flew as the Great Heathen Army pillaged its way across the land, deposing kings and establishing the Danelaw. In the East, Rurik founded the state of Russia, and in the forests and steppes of central Europe, pagan tribes were on the move. Crusader Kings II: The Old God lets players step into the boots of a pagan chieftain, approaching the brutal backstabbing world of Crusader Kings through invasion, adventure and holy war.”

So all of that warring over belief structures was going on back in 867 AD? You would think the human race would have maybe progressed a bit further in all of those centuries, huh?

For those interested in picking up The Old Gods DLC, look for it to hit Crusader Kings II sometime in Q2. Until then, here’s a look at some of the content’s features.
