From Software's mega difficult RPG Dark Souls is the subject of this weekend's Steam deal. You'll be able to pick up the game for $26.79, a 33% discount on the usual price.

Dark Souls is a successor to Demon's Souls and shares many common characteristics. The action RPG has a punishing learning curve so expect to die often as you learn to survive the game's various monsters and traps. To make matters worse, players can invade each others' games and attack them. Sometimes fellow players can be helpful, though. They can help you through difficult battles or leave helpful hints in the world.

The PC version, dubbed the "Prepare to Die Edition," came with new DLC as well. The "Artorias of the Abyss" DLC adds hours of new gameplay. Players will encounter never-before-seen enemies and boss fights, and win new loot as well. A brand-new PvP matchmaking system allows you to quickly dive into arena battles with up to 3 other players.

The Dark Souls PC port was criticized on release for a few issues. The mouse and keyboard controls are said to be sub-standard, so you may want to use an Xbox 360 controller if you've got one. The low frame rate was another point of contention, but a community patch will let you bump the game up to 60fps.

Dark Souls' discount will end on Monday at 10am PST, or 1pm EST.
