Former veterans from Electronic Arts, Volga Aksoy and Jerry Phaneuf, have broken away from the wings of a big publisher and have decided to see if they fly on their own with a new indie studio called PixelFoundry. The duo are now hard at work on a new RTS called BlackSpace.

For those of you unfamliar with Aksoy and Pahneuf's work they dedicated more than 10 years of their lives to popular EA franchises under the EA Tiburon label with games such as Madden, Tiger Woods and NASCAR. So they know what it takes to make a big game.

Speaking with GameSpot, the two revealed that the game will focus heavily on strategy oriented gameplay with a strong emphasis on "economic and defensive efficiency". There will also be a low-gravity operation vehicle or an LGOV to help navigate the harsh terrain of space and acquire resources. The entire game is expected to take place in the deep recesses of space among floating asteroids.

The game is scheduled to release, for now, as a timed PC exclusive and if it does well there will be follow-up mobile apps and the potentiality of the game being ported over to other home consoles.

Wondering how the game will look? Well, there are a few screenshots of the game but you probably won't be impressed with the broadside shots of giant asteroids in space. Still, if you want to keep updated on PixelFoundry's upcoming project, feel free to visit the Official Website.
