If you like your gore turned up to 11 and jump scares aplenty, then it looks like upcoming survival horror game, The Evil Within is gearing up to sate all of those devious tastes when it releases this fall. Players will have to wait a bit longer than expected, however, as the game has been pushed back by a couple of months. But, hey, at least we have a new fun video and pre-order details to tide us over, right?

My first experience with The Evil Within was at a closed-door session during E3 2013. We didn't get to play the game, but were instead treated to about 20 minutes of gameplay pulled from the early goings in the game. In the scenes, a hard-nosed cop makes his way into an insane asylum on the verge of chaos, only to find himself knocked unconscious. When he wakes up, he's hanging upside down alongside a bunch of other bodies while a massive beast of a man hacks one of the carcasses to pieces. The player's job is to escape from this nightmare of a situation, eventually leading into a room full of spinning blades that make a knife-wielding psycho look like a day at Disney Land.

There was a lot of blood and guts, a lot of tension, and a lot of tried and true horror game tropes being thrown into the mix. We got to see a bit of the game's combat, next, featuring scenes reminiscent of Resident Evil 4 where the player must try to stop a bunch of baddies from entering a closed off room through doors and windows alike. Along with a pistol, the player had a bunch of neat booby traps at their disposal, used to clear the monsters more quickly.

It was announced yesterday, however, that players won't be able to experience these kinds of moments for themselves until October 21. Originally slated for a late August release, The Evil Within has been pushed back for an additional two months of polish. Personally, I'm fine with developers taking a little extra time to get things right and, honestly, having this game come out about a week before Halloween makes a heck of a lot more sense to me anyway.

For those of you itching to take on the new horrors of The Evil Within, you'll also be rewarded for a pre-order with some in-game goodies called the Fighting Chance Pack. This pack includes a medical kit for healing, a Green Gel that upgrades Sebastian's attributes, a double barrel shotgun and a whopping three shells, an Incendiary Agony Bolt and a Poison Agony Bolt. Those last two are examples of those traps we were just talking about.

As a final treat, Bethesda Softworks yesterday released a “Reaction Video” for The Evil Within, showing Average Joes sitting in a dark room and watching some of the gameplay unfold. Enjoy! Otherwise, look for The Evil Within to hit PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC on Oct. 21.
