With a couple days to go before Dota 2's formal unveiling at GamesCom 2011, Valve has released the first trailer for the strategy game. The CGI trailer gives a glimpse at the different Heroes that players will control.

In Dota 2, two teams attempt to destroy a special structure in the opposing team's base. Each player controls a different Hero, a unit with unique powers. These Hero units gain experience and grow stronger as the match proceeds. The trailer shows us three Heroes: an axe-wielding brute, a speedy female archer, and a lightning-infused mage.

There's no actual gameplay footage for the trailer. If you want to see the game itself, you'll have to wait until GamesCom begins. Starting August 17th, Valve will be holding a Dota 2 tournament called the International. Sixteen of the best Dota teams in the world will battle it out for a $1 million prize.

Dota 2 is due later this year for the PC and Mac.
