Hearthstone expansion pack Goblins vs. Gnomes has been released. Blizzard is marking the occasion with a giveaway for all players.
Everyone who logs into Hearthstone from now until December 19th will receive three free packs of Goblins vs. Gnomes cards. Like the normal Expert packs, GvG packs include five cards with at least one Rare or better.
Goblins vs. Gnomes cards can also be purchased through the in-game store. They cost the same gold or cash amount as Expert packs. You can also craft them using Arcane Dust.
The Expert packs are still on sale through the store. Be careful when you make purchases. Blizzard says they can't refund transactions with gold. The implication is that cash purchases can be refunded, though.
The GvG expansion includes over 120 new cards. Many of these new cards are robotic minions grouped under the Mech type. Select GvG minions generate Spare Parts, one-mana spells that strengthen or weaken creatures on the battlefield.
The new cards are accompanied by other big changes to the game. Three popular cards, including Soul Fire, have been nerfed. A new Spectator mode was introduced as well.
"Spectator Mode allows you to watch a friend’s Hearthstone game in progress as if you were the one sitting in the piloted shredder’s seat," Blizzard said. "When in Spectator Mode, it’s easy to look at the cards in your friend’s hand, see the play-by-play history, and watch the action unfold in real time."
The launch of Goblins vs. Gnomes hasn't been flawless. Players have reported trouble logging into the game since the expansion went live.
"We're currently looking into the server issues that are affecting game logins, and we hope to have things smoothed out as quickly as possible. Apologies for the frustration!"
The expansion is only available in North America right now. Blizzard says that it will be rolled out to other regions once they've got any issues worked out there.
