During the opening ceremony for BlizzCon 2015, Blizzard revealed the next expansion pack coming to Hearthstone. League of Explorers is a brand-new single-player adventure coming this month.
Past single-player expansions have been based on popular raids from World of Warcraft. Explorers, however, has a more general treasure-hunting theme:
Join the League of Explorers and embark on the adventure of a lifetime. Explore Azeroth's most mysterious archaeological sites and discover ancient treasures! Travel alongside famous treasure hunter Brann Bronzebeard and his merry band of intrepid action-archeologists on a race to uncover the pieces of the Staff of Origination, a priceless, ancient artifact. But beware, for you are not the only one who's hunting the artifact. Others have picked up the scent as well, so you'll have to play your cards right to stay one step ahead of the competition and keep the Staff of Origination from falling into the wrong hands!
League of Explorers is structured much like previous single-player expansions. Players will face off against a series of A.I. bosses spread over four wings. One wing will be released per week, with the first coming on November 12th. There will be a one-week break in the middle of this schedule for the Thanksgiving holiday here in the United States, though.
Defeating each boss will earn you new cards for your collection. The last boss of a wing will also reward you a legendary card. Once you've beaten a wing once, though, there's reason to replay it. Class challenges task you with beating one of the bosses with a pre-made deck and reward you with a card for one class. The Heroic mode amps up the difficulty of League of Explorer's bosses significantly by giving them more health and new abilities.
League will also bring a new keyword for cards. Cards with a "Discover" property give you "the opportunity to dig up cards and select the one you need the most." In other words, they're more targeted than cards that simply let you draw more cards.
Blizzard says that League of Explorers's wings can be purchased for 700 Gold or $6.99 each. You can also purchase the entire expansion all at once for $19.99. If past expansions are any indication, there's going to be some kind of bonus for players who pre-order it.
