The very niche, very hardcore, very insular first-person, strategy game hybrid, Natural Selection 2 has received a new update that adds a very inviting new feature for G.I.R.Ls and girls alike: Female space marines.
Unknown Worlds let the news fly loose on their official website where they have a giant concept poster plastered on the page signifying that you can finally play a species that doesn't run around with a schlong jammed between their jock strap.
As noted on the website...
Games are legitimate cultural influences, and game developers are responsible for the message they choose to convey to players. The Natural Selection 2 female marine is first and foremost, like her male colleague, a soldier. Her armour puts function before form, while adopting the science fiction, melee combat aligned design ques that have made the male marine so uniquely recognisable.
Quite naturally, the whole comment section below the post devolved into a debate I'd rather not recount, lest the structure of the dialogue jump ship like Don Mattrick abandoned the Xbox One's arid plains for the faux-green pastures of Zynga.
As the images below indicate, females looking for a power-fantasy in which their character is completely asexual is finally fulfilled in this little indie gem. You don't have to worry about dudes popping into a game and checking out the cup size with a follow-up chat that consists of phone number requests and video chat inquiries. You no longer have to worry about lonely man-nerds losing concentration by oogling over the buxom busts of the model, or worrying about the inconsistently curvacious hips displayed with so little armor that it makes Tarzan look over dressed for any occasion.
What you get here in Unknown Worlds' game is an equal footing on a deathbed of losers and a podium of competitively driven winners; there are no physical discrepancies between genders where skill is what should count. The look of the female marine won't change the gameplay. So you shouldn't have to worry about going in with lower HP or more agility because it's the common thing some developers do.
You also don't have to worry about dropping dimes to play a dame, because Unknown Worlds is doing things different than their competitors at Nexon, Aeria Games or SG Interactive, where the free-to-play shooters require you to pump some cash shop coins into their coffers before you can change into a candy-lipped combatant. At Unknown Worlds, ladies' night is always free.
You can grab the update for Natural Selection 2 right now and start playing as a female marine if you already own the game.
I suppose the next logical step would be to ask when the female aliens are inbound?
