The iPhone/iPod Touch update of The Oregon Trail announced last month is finally here. Now younger generations can experience the joy of dying of dysentery in the middle of the Louisiana Purchase.

The graphics are substantially more polished than they were back in the days of Commodore 64's and Apple II GS's but the core gameplay is the same: you control a virtual family trying to traverse the American wilderness in a covered wagon so they can settle in Oregon. The iPhone/iPod Touch version offers up eight new minigames depicting the little daily chores you'll need to perform out in the wilderness like hunting and fishing. I'm sure there's also a "watch your wagon topple over into the river because you tried to float it across" minigame as well.

The game's available now through the App Store. It was developed by Gameloft, who previously released Oregon for other mobile phones.
