On April 13th, Square Enix will reveal something big. It's part of a marketing campaign to unveil a couple of new games, one of which was Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. With the mysterious teaser website going live, gamers are asking "what's next?"
The folks at DualShockers noticed the website, noting that it contains a series of numbers and letters, and the word "Secret" is in the URL.
The letters S,A, and R appear above the numbers 0, 1, 0, and 1. In binary or machine code, the numbers simply mean "off, on, off, on," which means absolutely nothing. And the letters have no discernible meaning. Some people thought it could mean that Square Enix has a new Star Ocean game on the horizon or that that the company has something planned for release on the eighth gen consoles.
The last Star Ocean game is the often forgotten. Star Ocean: The Last Hope was released on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 back in 2009. It's possible that the series is due for a reboot, now that most people have forgotten about it. The popularity of JRPGs has skyrocketed recently, with Final Fantasy XV and Xenoblade Chronicles X due out for home consoles.
Naturally some gamers attributed the reveal to yet another possible Final Fantasy game, but that seems unlikely. Square just recently unveiled the new fighting game Dissidia, which is part of the Final Fantasy: Dissidia franchise.
Plus, Square also recently unveiled the Mobius Final Fantasy game for mobile devices due out in Japan. For those unfamiliar with the title, the main character's attire was deemed “too sexy” and required some reworking and refitting for something more “appropriate.” It makes another Final Fantasy game seem really unlikely.
Of course, it's probably not another Deus Ex game, given that they just announced one. And this is obviously being made by one of Square's Japanese branches since it's hosted on the company's Japanese website.
Realistically, it could end up being anything. Though, the focus on Earth's ocean does lend itself to the Star Ocean theory. Then again, it's the Earth's ocean and not like an “ocean of stars” or whatnot. Heck, it could be another Seiken Densetsu or Secret of Mana game. One thing that some people may not have considered is that it could be a completely new IP.
Of course, we won't know for sure what the new game is until April 13th. So, in just a few days, gamers will have to keep their eyes peeled for the upcoming title. Until then, feel free to drop your guesses into the comments section.
