Later this month Blizzard Entertainment will release Heart of the Swarm, the first expansion pack for real-time strategy StarCraft 2. In the meantime, they're marking down the base game by 50%.

StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty was released in the summer of 2010. Its campaign centered around Jim Raynor, the former marshall turned rebel. He leads an uprising against Arcturus Mengsk, the Emperor of the Terran Dominion. In the process, he must face off against his former ally Kerrigan, now the leader of the Zerg.

Heart of the Swarm will pick up right where Wings left off. Kerrigan is thought defeated but she quickly sets out to regain her control over the Zerg. She then sets out on her own quest for revenge against Mengsk.

Wings also comes with a full set of multiplayer modes. Players can team up to face off against the A.I. or human opponents in skirmish matches. The game's editing tools also allow players to create their own custom modes. Swarm will build on the multiplayer experience with new units and features, such as clan support.

The deal on Wings of Liberty, only offered through the Blizzard Store, brings the price down from $40 to $20. The discount will expire on March 11th at 11:59 pm PST. Heart of the Swarm will launch on the 12th.
