Is everyone ready to party like it's 1999? For those who miss the virtual pet days of yore, Bandai has announced plans to bring back the leader of the pack, Tamagotchi through the modern marvel of mobile apps. You can expect Tamagotchi apps to hit iOS and Android devices sometime “soon.”

I'm not going to lie, I had a Tamagotchi back in the day. I eventually upgraded to a Digimon before realizing that caring for virtual pets was way more involved than maintaining a living, breathing cat or dog. I have always wondered, however, why Tamagotchi never appeared on mobile devices. It seems like the perfect platform for a virtual pet and, since it would be tied directly to your mobile device, you wouldn't need to keep track of a bulky, egg-shaped keychain.

Well, as Digital Spy is reporting, Bandai has finally realized how awesome an idea that is and are working on Tamagotchi L.I.F.E. for both iOS and Android devices. Along with a variety of adorable minigames, Tamagotchi L.I.F.E. will also feature a “Retro Mode,” which will simulate the Tamagotchi keychains of old.

When you aren't killing time with the minigames, you'll need to clean up after your pet, give them medicine, feed them, play with them and turn off the lights when they go to sleep. At least this time around you'll be able to save your progress as you go, so maybe you won't need to keep the app running in the background all of the time and constantly be bothered by the beeps of a virtual pet that needs you to clean up its poop.

So far, the only release date being talked about is “soon,” so you might want to head to the library and start checking out all of the books on “How to care for my virtual pet.”
