Team Fortress 2 Co-op Mode Battles Filthy Robots

This week Valve will release a new mode for Team Fortress 2 called "Mann vs. Machine." MvM is an experience like Gears of Wars' Horde Mode that pits players against an army of A.I. robots.

In Mann vs. Machine, up to six players must fight off waves of robots. After each wave, players have a chance to upgrade their abilities or weapons. Players who survive all of the waves will get loot and achievements.

Admittedly, this isn't the most original premise for a new game mode. Every shooter seems to have a Horde mode these days. Still, the large selection of character classes in TF2 should make MvM an interesting experience. There's also some talk of "missions," which could add some spice to the usual "survival" gameplay.

TF2 will turn five years old this October. It's impressive how Valve has continued to build up the game. Apparently its business model - free-to-play, with optional microtransactions - is profitable enough for the company to still support it.

Valve plans to release MvM mode on August 15th.
