War Thunder, the free-to-play military combat MMO from Gaijin Entertainment, has received a mechanical and graphical facelift in Beta update version 1.29. If you aren’t one of the 1 million-plus pilots already taking part in the online war games, apparently the game has never looked or played so good.

Released today, the 1.29 update adds several advancements to the game, including the ability for pilots to check out who their top opponents are in each region with specific leaderboards. The game’s graphics and sound have also received an overhaul, as well as additions to general gameplay. For those of you rocking a Gametrix vTrack MKI, headset-tracker is also now enabled within the beta. The client size has also been reduced, as well as shortened load times.

Finally, for gamers playing the war MMO in the U.S., dedicated servers for the regions should now make the connection much smoother.

According to Gaijin CEO Anton Yudintsev, all of these improvements have come as a direct result of player input, which is exactly why they’re looking for even more pilots to jump into the open beta.

“These additions to
War Thunder further enhance each user’s experience,” Yudintsev said. “War Thunder’s updates come directly from feedback received from the more than 1 million players currently raining havoc and firepower in our MMO game. To those players, we are listening to your feedback and will continue to make updates as we progress toward our future launch.”

To enlist in the free-to-play War Thunder, simply head on over to the game’s official website, download the (now smaller) client and hit the skies with guns blazing.
