A new video trailer for Hammerpoint Interactive's The War Z has become widely available for public consumption and it features two raiders going about their business to murder and terrorize other players and zombies alike.
One of the highlights of DayZ is that the game has no structure to its gameplay, you just kind of go where you want and do what you want. You can join others or fight them but it's all up to you. The game's stark approach to surviving makes it a hard game to play and enforces some bit of teamwork given the difficulty and challenges associated with...well...surviving.
You can check out The War Z's take on the zombie-survival PVP mechanics with the video below. I can't really tell if the game will encourage some effort of teamwork the way DayZ does, but for now it looks like it's a lot more competitive oriented than DayZ.
The weapon usage and mechanics look good but there's something about this game...something I can't quite pinpoint that seems to strip away from the immediate danger and cloud of intrigue that DayZ managed to capture with its sort of minimalist approach to survival-horror.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see how The War Z turns out and if it can manage to compete with DayZ on the same scale. I can say, however, that DayZ as an alpha still seems to be the top of the crop. We'll see how well both games compete in closed-beta soon enough.
