World of Warcraft's Patch 6.0.2 can now be played on the game's Public Test Realm. Patch 6.0.2 makes several huge changes to the game to pave the way for new expansion pack Warlords of Draenor.
As soon as you log into the PTR, you may notice your character looks dramatically different. The Dwarf, Gnome, Human, Night Elf, Orc, Tauren, Troll, Undead, and Draenei races have all been updated with new character models and animations. You can check out how the revamped races look here.
Even if you hate your character's new appearance, you can take solace in the fact that his or her bags are less cluttered with garbage. Quest items are no longer in the inventory and instead are accessible through the Quest Tracker. Toys can be stored in a new Toy Box interface accessible across all characters on your account much like pets or mounts. Tradeskill materials can be stored in a Reagent Bank tab and used for crafting even if they're not in your bags.
Character stats were given an extensive makeover as well. Player and enemy stats have been "squished" to smaller numbers to make them easier to read. Racial abilities were rebalanced to make them more even. As previously announced, Blizzard is cutting down on the number of character abilities as well.
This is just a small sample of the update's features, though. You can read the full patch notes for 6.0.2. here. They're lengthy but Blizzard breaks them down with subheadings and images to make it more readable.
While this patch makes a number of huge changes, it doesn't include most of the content from Warlords of Draenor itself. The level cap is still 90. The new zones, dungeons and raids are inaccessible. You also can't make your own garrison yet.
However, Patch 6.0.2 does feature a special event that sets up the plot of Warlords of Draenor. Garrosh's Iron Horde has invaded through the Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands and taken over the local Alliance and Horde bases. Players can head to the Blasted Lands to help repel these invaders. They can also tackle a special level 90 version of Upper Blackrock Spire, which will also tie into the expansion's plot.
Right now there are some other temporary restrictions on the PTR as well. The Mac version is currently not working. Furthermore, Character Copy is down so you'll have to use a new character. Blizzard does plan to make PTR Character Copies easier soon, though, through an in-game option.
Warlords of Draenor is currently in beta. Unlike the PTR, the beta isn't open to all. You need to get a key through a giveaway or opt into the test through your Battle.net account and hope to get picked. The expansion will launch sometime in November.
