World of Warcraft creative director Alex Afrasiabi has revealed new screenshots from the MMORPG's upcoming Warlords of Draenor expansion. The images show off two zones from the expansion's new world.

The first screenshot, released through Afrasiabi's Twitter account, shows off Talador. This is a region near Shattrath City, home to the Draenei. It's one of the more peaceful-looking zones, with lush forests and colorful draenei architecture.

As serene as it looks, Talador has its share of dangers. Shattrath City is currently under siege by the forces of the Iron Horde, a coalition of the orc clans. The massive mausoleum of Auchindoun is located here as well. The draenei soulpriests are busy trying to protect the souls of the dead from demons.

The other screenshot features Gorgrond, an arid region on the northern tip of the continent. Gorgrond is home to the Blackrock Clan, a group of orcs known for their skill in blacksmithing and metalworking. They're currently building siege weapons to assist their conquest of Draenor.

Like other WoW zones, Gorgrond is fairly large so it's not just a plain old desert. There's a lot of variation in the terrain. There are hot springs inhabited by elementals in foreground of the screenshot. Massive rock formations can be seen in the distance.

Draenor will launch with seven zones for level 90+ characters to explore, including the snowy wastes of Frostfire Ridge and the hills of Nagrand. Blizzard is planning to add Netherstorm in a post-launch patch.

Some of the locations should sound familiar to World of Warcraft vets. Draenor is actually the same planet as Outland, the setting of the Burning Crusade. Warlords depicts an alternate timeline in which Draenor was never torn apart by magic. It's dramatically different than Outland as a result, though you'll see echoes of BC in this new world.

Warlords of Draenor, the fifth expansion pack to the game, is expected later in 2014. A closed beta test should begin soon. Blizzard may release a sixth expansion a year after Draenor in order to keep subscribers' attention.
