Lena Headey Leads The Black Death

If Lena Headey hasn’t proven to be enough of a bad ass for you in 300 and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, then it’s unlikely you’ll ever be won over. Just in case, however, she’s adding another killer role to her resume with the upcoming Black Death, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie will star Rupert Friend (The Last Legion) as a monk and Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings) as a priest, both of whom are sent to investigate rumors of a small village where people are being brought back to life during the time of the first bubonic plague outbreak. Although the village seems peaceful, the duo quickly realize there is more going on than meets the eye, and the village ruler, played by Headey, has made a compact with forces of darkness.

Although the story concept sounds cool, I’m a little nervous about the execution and where the project will wind up. Geoffrey Sax will direct the project who, other than White Noise and the ill-fated Stormbreaker, has largely handled television and direct to DVD films. Even though the story sounds neat, it also sounds like the kind of project that could go direct to DVD as well. The movie will be shopped around to potential buyers during the Berlin International Film Festival.
