Tom Cruise recently starred in the newest entry in the Mission: Impossible franchise and the actor proved that even at the age of 56 (Seriously? 56? That can't be right) he's still one of the top action stars around. We're always up for a good Tom Cruise movie, and honestly, everything else the actor has coming up looks pretty damn good too.
While a couple of them are the requisite sequels that come with success, several others are wholly original projects. We're looking forward to simply learning more about many of these, nevermind actually seeing the finished project.
Top Gun: Maverick
The idea that there might, one day, be a sequel to Top Gun has been one of those development ideas that hadn't died since the first movie came out in the mid-1980s. However, now we know that after all the talk, the movie is actually happening. The title is Top Gun: Maverick and it will follow Cruise's Pete Mitchell as an instructor at the flight school where he finds himself working with the son of his former partner Goose, played by Miles Teller. Cruise had previously said that if he made the sequel they had to use practical effects, so be prepared for some real dogfighting once again.

Originally, the word was that Tom Cruise was going to join his Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman for Luna Park before playing Ethan Hunt again in Mission: Impossible. While that didn't happen, there's every reason to believe that Luna Park will happen once schedules align. The description of Luna Park sounds like what is essentially a heist movie, except the thing being stolen is a power source, and the place it's being stolen from is the moon. Cruise has been solid in science fiction in recent years, so we're all for it. We'll know this one is a go when more cast is announced, as a heist movie will certainly need a team.

Live. Die. Repeat And Repeat (Edge of Tomorrow 2)
While Edge of Tomorrow wasn't a literal blockbuster, it was a successful box office film both financially and with fans. While a sequel to the film hasn't been given an official announcement or release date, the project has reportedly hired screenwriters and Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote the screenplay for the original film is still involved. Add to it the fact that Tom Cruise and Doug Liman are basically working together on a semi-permanent basis these days and we know that eventually, this one will happen. The last we heard from Emily Blunt, the script is being worked on so this might actually be ready to go fairly soon.

Universal has been trying to get a shared universe of their famous movie monsters off the ground for some time. After an apparent false start with Dracula Untold, the studio was hoping that the star power of Tom Cruise would be the thing that launches the franchise with The Mummy. Cruise was the film's hero, Tyler Holt, opposite Sofia Boutella as a female version of the bandage wrapped horror. The movie didn't do as well as was hoped, so the future of the Dark Universe is currently unclear.

Tom Cruise tends to get forgotten in straight dramas, regardless of how good a job he does. _American Made_was just such a film. Cruise played Barry Seal, a former drug trafficker who turns informant and goes to work for the CIA. The film only grossed $134 million globally, which, for Tom Cruise is what you call underperforming. It wasn't his best dramatic work but it was a solidly entertaining movie almost entirely thanks to the charisma of the lead actor.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Tom Cruise is known as an actor who does a lot of big budget summer movies, though he's only really got one franchise at this point. We thought things couldn't get any better following Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and yet, somehow they did. Mission: Impossible - Fallout reviewed even better than the previous entries in the franchise. This series has only been getting better as it has gone on(M:I 2 notwithstanding) and following this increasing success we can only assume the early planning for Mission: Impossible 7 is already underway.
