Jennifer Garner Is Not Happy About Cover Article Detailing Her Split With Ben Affleck

Jennifer Garner upset in Miracles from Heaven 2015

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's divorce has gotten plenty of publicity, and there has been considerable speculation about how the movie stars are doing. Surprisingly, a popular entertainment magazine purports to have answers in a new cover story. Based on the title of the article, "Jennifer Garner: Life After Heartbreak," one might guess the 45-year-old Hollywood actress opened up about how life is different in the wake of the split. However, Garner now says she did not pose for the cover photo and made no contribution to the story at all. Garner took to social media to express her dismay, writing,

It has been brought to my attention that there is a People magazine cover and article out today that appear to be coming from me... This isn't a tragedy by any measure, but it does affect me and my family and so, before my mom's garden club lights up her phone, I wanted to set the record straight: I did not pose for this cover. I did not participate in or authorize this article.

With three kids--Violet Affleck, Seraphina Affleck, and Samuel Affleck--Jennifer Garner has to be wary of misleading reports. In the statement, which Garner posted to Facebook, the Juno and Miracles from Heaven actress proved she is not pleased with outlets discussing her relationship and making it seem as if she were involved. However, it wasn't all an angry post. She also infused some truth-in-jest humor, joking,

It isn't unusual for me to receive calls from loved ones thinking I forgot to tell them I am pregnant--with twins!--(Geez Louise), but those are so ridiculous they're easy to ignore. ... While we are here, for what it's worth: I have three wonderful kids and my family is complete. Have a beautiful day.

The content of the cover story is not so damaging, but the story does rely on "sources" reportedly close to the couple to explain how Garner is "happy, healing and looking forward to a bright future." As lovely as that sentiment might be, it might have carried more weight if it had come from Garner herself. Moreover, Affleck and Garner could still be working out aspects of their divorce. Until the celebrities figure out everything, a tight lid will likely be kept on the details.

A representative for People gave a statement to E! about the incident, noting,

People covers Hollywood stars beloved by our audience, and our story on Jennifer Garner is fair and truthful. To be clear, it does not include rumors and does not say she's pregnant. We wish her well.

Ben Affleck or Jennifer Garner might one day offer candid remarks about the divorce and the road ahead, but now is probably not the time. After all, it has been but weeks since the pair filed for divorce. There could be loose ends to square away before either celebrity can even reflect in earnest on the full experience in the way the article seems to suggest Garner has. And that's OK.
