Sophie Turner Struggled With The Public Criticizing Her Body

Sophie Turner - X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Through her performance as Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones, Sophie Turner has grown up in front of viewers around the world. The former child star is learning to say goodbye to her most famous character to date as the final season of the hit HBO fantasy series airs. And in the process of reflecting on the past, the actress admits that it hasn't always been easy.

Since the show has followed Sophie Turner throughout her teenage years, audiences can see how she has grown and changed and that has invited some unsavory commentary from a few people as well. Understandably, such criticism can be tough for the rising celebrity to hear. Turner admitted as much during a recent podcast appearance. She said:

I was so in love with [Game of Thrones]... I couldn't believe I was going to get paid for it... Everything was incredible. It only started to kind of go downhill I think when I started to hit puberty, really puberty though at like 17, and my metabolism was slowing down massively, and I was gaining weight, and there was social media scrutiny and everything — and that's when it kind of hit me.

Sophie Turner revealed this personal reflection during her guest spot on Dr. Phil McGraw's podcast, Phil In The (Blanks). The film/TV actress also talked about how she is trying to change the stigma on mental health concerns and being transparent about her issues. In doing so, Sophie Turner continued to be open and honest about herself — particularly related to her career.

In addition to her famous role on Game of Thrones, Sophie Turner also plays Jean Grey in the latest X-Men movies. The newest (and possibly final) addition to the long-running superhero series, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, will be released on June 7th. And it will find Sophie Turner giving one of her biggest performances yet. That's understandably a lot of pressure, particularly for the young, socially-conscious actress. And Turner didn't shy away from talking about the weight of her stresses.

This is not the first time Sophie Turner opened up about her personal perspective. She admitted recently that, while working with Jennifer Lawrence in the X-Men movies, she was inspired by the Oscar-winning actress, whom she didn't see as "your typical 'skinny star'" in Hollywood — particularly in a major superhero movie.

Additionally, Sophie Turner has been revealing a couple other details about her life in other interviews, including some of her past same-sex romantic experiences and how she has gotten high in bathtubs with her Game of Thrones co-star, Maisie Williams. The actress has been doing a lot of interview rounds lately, leading up to the final season of Game of Thrones. And she will continue to do press rounds for X-Men: Dark Phoenix in the next couple weeks, more likely than not. So, there's a good chance we will hear even more about Sophie Turner in the months to come.
