King of the Hill's latest batch of episodes featured a flashback that checked in on Hank sometime after the show, but before he and Peggy decided to leave for Saudi Arabia. The episode is worth using a Hulu subscription to watch, especially because it sets the stage for two long-gone characters to return in the future.
Now, with the 2026 TV schedule introducing the story development that Bobby lived with Lucky and Luanne when Hank and Peggy moved abroad, I need to see what that looked like. I don't think I'm alone in that either, as this presents the perfect opportunity for Luanne and Lucky to come back into the series, if only in a limited capacity.
Why I Need To See Teen Bobby Living With Luanne And Lucky
Luanne and Bobby's side adventures were some of my favorite parts of King of the Hill during its original run. Their dynamic as cousins reminded me of my own interactions with relatives, so I've been campaigning to see her return in the revival in some way.
So much has changed for Bobby over the years, and yet he has the same voice. I'd be curious to see how Luanne has changed, and the ways she's still the same person. Obviously, Hank and Peggy thought she was at least responsible enough to be Bobby's legal guardian while they were overseas, which says a lot considering she wasn't always reliable back in the day.
Then there's Lucky, who was one of the stranger additions to King of the Hill deep into its run. Luanne's significantly older boyfriend eventually became her husband, but they seemed to be a happy and healthy couple. I'd love to see how he'd be in the modern seasons, with his age perhaps showing even more as time went on.
Why Luanne And Lucky Likely Aren't In King Of The Hill's Revival (Yet)
While I would love to see Luanne and Lucky in the newest iteration of King of the Hill, we still don't know if we'll ever see them. Showrunner Saladin Patterson originally said they were not cast out of respect for the late Brittany Murphy, as well as Tom Petty, who voiced Luanne and Lucky, respectively.
I understand the sentiment, though I have to counter with the fact that King of the Hill has already had to recast several characters. Toby Huss took over voicing Dale Gribble when voice actor Johnny Hardwick passed away, and Ronny Chieng took over Huss' job of voicing Kahn.
Then there's Jonathan Joss, whose John Redcorn may or may not come back into King of the Hill down the line following the voice actor's death. While the initial gesture to leave them out of the series out of respect might've seemed honorable, if other characters are being replaced, I think it's worthy of reconsidering.
After all, King of the Hill has a golden opportunity to create a spinoff, in which blue-haired K-Pop-loving teenage Bobby lives with Lucky and Luanne and their daughter Gracie. I think there's a lot of potential there, especially with making a more Bobby-centric series and a change of scenery that can open up things for new characters. We'll see if it'll happen in future seasons, but for now, it feels like the odds of seeing Lucky or Luanne remain slim.
