Riverdale Casts Mark Consuelos' Son For The Best Role
Riverdale set the stage for an explosive Season 3, and it looks like its fully intending to drop some bombs on fans in its upcoming episodes. The latest news from The CW's over the top teen drama is that its added Mark Consuelos' son, Michael, to the roster for a truly interesting storyline. Michael will play a young Hiram Lodge in what may the best role for an upcoming Riverdale flashback episode.
Michael Consuelos, who is currently a junior at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, will play a younger version of his father's character in what will be his first television acting gig ever. Riverdale reached out to Consuelos as part of an effort to fill out its cast for a flashback episode, which will feature the show's main cast playing the adults of Riverdale in an episode that takes place in the past. While Consuelos might not have as much acting experience as the other Riverdale crew, it's hard to dispute actually being related to the actor he's portraying will help sell his role a little better than everyone else.
Michael Consuelos' presence was necessary as Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguire-Saccasa informed press at the TCA summer tour (via TV Insider) Season 3 will have a flashback episode that will play out like a twisted version of The Breakfast Club. The episode, titled "The Midnight Club," will show Riverdale's adults in their younger years, and reveal a dark secret they've kept to themselves for a long time. Consuelos' casting was necessary, as the show apparently didn't have a teen counterpart to fill the role of Hiram. As of writing, the show still has yet to reveal who will portray Hal Cooper, who fans will remember was Alice Cooper's high school sweetheart.
Fans won't have long to see how Mark Consuelos' son does in the role, as Riverdale will feature Michael's acting debut in episode 4 of Season 3. One could speculate with a "dark secret," reveal coming that early the episode will be pretty substantial in terms of the overall plot of the season. Of course, Riverdale has so much happen each episode it's sometimes hard to figure out what all will still be relevant at the season's end, so we can only speculate.
Riverdale returns to The CW to kick off Season 3 Wednesday, October 10, at 8:00 p.m. ET.
