Will Kaley Cuoco's Harley Quinn Get Canceled? Here's The Latest On Season 3

Kaley Cuoco as Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn has emerged as one of the biggest surprises from the DC Universe streaming service. Hardcore fans of the Joker’s former lover had high hopes for an adult animated take on the character, and the creative team has exceeded expectations. But with DC Universe experiencing shifts in its content, some aren’t sure about the show’s future, including writer and producer Justin Halpern:

We're in a position now where DC Universe is trying to figure out what it wants to do with the show. There's been rumblings about expanding now that Warner Media has several arms. We're exploring opportunities for other outlets but nothing's confirmed.

Justin Halpern was honest about the show’s chances when he spoke with ComicBook.com. Despite the uncertainty revolving around the show, Halpern confirmed that he and his colleagues have been considering ideas for a potential third season, though those concepts could change over time:

But as part of the, 'Hey, look at us. We're this little show that's doing pretty well. We have sent a one page... Just not even a synopsis but more of a setup for what could be season three. And so, we have thought about it but that's not to say that it could change entirely once we get a writer's room going, if we are lucky enough to get a third season pickup. It's all to be determined.

Whenever any kind of show is in limbo, it can be difficult for the creatives to decide how they want to move forward. On the one hand, it never hurts to have ideas for the future in case there is a pickup. Yet on the other hand, why put in all of the time and effort if it doesn’t appear the show will be getting the greenlight? Needless to say, Justin Halpern and his team are in an awkward position.

Harley Quinn debuted to rave reviews and solid ratings last fall before wrapping up its first season in February. The season centered on the titular antihero leaving her insensitive (and psychotic) boss/boyfriend the Joker and making a name for herself. She eventually formed a crew consisting of characters like Poison Ivy, King Shark and Kite Man.

Aside from giving audiences plenty of violence, humor and DC Comics lore, it also managed to flesh out Quinn’s character and inject some sentimentality into her story from time to time. This was especially true in the final episodes of the season.

If the trailer is any indication, the second season of Harley Quinn is set to thrust Quinn into even more madcap adventures. It remains to be seen if they end up being her final adventures on the small screen, and fans will be holding their breath to see if that third season comes through. Harley Quinn Season 2 will premiere on DC Universe on April 3.
