The Boys: 7 Quick Things We Know About Season 2

Karl Urban as Billy The Butcher in The Boys Season 2

The Boys Season 2 release is one of the most anticipated things about the 2020 TV season. The Amazon Video original series focuses on an anti-hero vigilantes group called The Boys. Their mission is to expose supes, especially The Seven, as the corrupt villains who the world mistakes for heroes. Supes are people with superpowers who are treated like gods, and act like them as well--with the abuse of their absolute power and abilities to toy with humanity.

The Boys Season 1 took the internet by storm, becoming one of Amazon Prime Video’s most popular series, and one of the biggest hit shows of 2019. Since The Boys Season 1 finale, we’ve been anxiously waiting for the return of the show. Unfortunately, we still don’t have an official release date for The Boys Season 2, but we have enough info to get us even more excited about the new season.

Erin Moriarty as Starlight in The Boys Season 2

The Boys Season 2 Premieres In 2020

The Boys doesn’t have an official release date, but executive producer Eric Kripke confirmed multiple times that Season 2 would launch in 2020. In a tweet made in May 2020, he even said that he was finishing The Boys remotely. He just had to work on the “VFX and sound.” Kripke also said that the official air date announcement would come soon. The Boys star Karl Urban also captioned an Instagram picture way back in November 2019 about Season 2 coming in mid-2020.

Amazon released The Boys Season 1 on July 26, so Kripke and the streaming service might be aiming for a similar release date with Season 2. So The Boys Season 2 could air as early as the end of July or early August.

Jack Quaid as Hughie In The Boys

The Boys Finished Filming Season 2 In 2019

In August 2019, Kripke released a photo showing that the production on The Boys Season 2 had begun. In November 2019, Karl Urban said that filming was wrapped up on the season on his Instagram. Therefore, all filming for The Boys Season 2 was likely over by November 2019.

Antony Starr as Homelander

Most Of The Boys Season 1 Cast Returns For Season 2

The Boys fans should expect to see all of The Boys back: Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie (Jack Quaid), the Female (Karen Fukuhara), Frenchie (Tomer Kapon), and Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso). The surviving Seven members will also return: Homelander (Antony Starr), Starlight (Erin Moriarty), The Deep (Chase Crawford), Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) and Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott),

And though A-Train (Jessie Usher)’s fate was left ambiguous at the end of The Boys Season 1, it seems likely that he'll at least appear on the Season 2 premiere to explain what happens next to him. The Boys fans might be sad to learn that Simon Pegg, who played Hughie's dad, won’t be making an appearance in season 2. He told Collider that “no” he wouldn't be involved with Season 2. He continued on to say “They got me out of the way. I did my little bit. It was very fun to do that show. I was pleased to be a part of it.”

Giancarlo Esposito as Mr. Edgar in The Boys

The Boys Season 2 Has Plenty Of New Characters

Aya Cash joins The Boys Season 2 as Stormfront. In Garth Ennis’ original comic, Stormfront was a neo-nazi male character who was created in Germany during WWII. He was a Hitler Youth who became a super soldier. Besides a major gender swap, there will be some more changes made to the character to reflect the current times, like Stormfront’s use of social media to build her army.

The Boys Season 2 also cast Goran Visnjic and Claudia Doumit for recurring roles. Visnjic will play Alistair Adana, who is the charming leader of a mysterious church. Doumit plays Victoria Neuman, a congresswoman. Kripke also teased on his Twitter page that Patton Oswalt will appear in Season 2, but he didn’t say more about the role.

Giancarlo Esposito made a brief appearance in The Boys Season 1, and he’ll have an even bigger role in the second season. Kripke told Entertainment Weekly that Esposito’s character, Mr. Edgar, will appear in four or five episodes in Season 2.

Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve in The Boys Season 2

The Boys Season 2 Goes Bigger And Deeper

Jack Quaid spoke to Gold Derby and TVInsider about what to expect for season 2. He said this during his Gold Derby interview:

We have a lot more of those crazy moments that we’re known for but I think that we really get in deep with every single character. It’s bigger but it’s also deeper which I think is really important, especially for a Season 2. You really get to find out what makes everybody tick.

The Boys Season 2 teaser also showed a lot more action and blood to come in the upcoming season.

Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir

Black Noir Is More Of A Main Character In Season 2

Speaking on a C2E2 panel, Urban confirmed that Black Noir has a bigger role in season 2. Starr also added:

I think of all the characters from season two, I think they probably wrote to him the strongest in season two in my opinion. Black Noir is like a f**ing force in season two.

Kripke also said in the previous mentioned EW interview that Season 2 tackles the supes in the military, everything that occurred on the finale, and that season 2 will involve the filming of a movie based on The Seven called Dawn of the Seven. This might also mean more Seth Rogen cameos, and possibly a fun look at a movie version of Black Noir and the others.

Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve in The Boys Season 2

The Boys Season 2 Episode Titles Have Been Revealed

The Boys Season 2 will also have eight episodes, just like Season 1. The Cinema Spot discovered that the The Writers Guild of America West had posted the episode titles for Season 2. The titles are: The Big Ride, Proper Preparation and Planning, Nothing Like It In The World, Over the Hill With The Swords Of A Thousand Men, We Gotta Go Now, The Bloody Doors Off, Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker, and What I Know

All of these episode titles are taken straight from the actual comic books, either single comics or storyline arcs. The order of the episodes are currently unknown.

The Boys Season 2 will hopefully premiere soon, but if the rumors are true, Season 3 will be headed our way sometime in 2021 or 2022. If you can’t wait for The Boys Season 2, it might be time to re-binge the series or find some similar shows to watch. Stream The Boys Season 1 here.
