Tamar Braxton's Boyfriend Updates Fans After Her Possible Suicide Attempt

tamar braxton entertainment tonight interview

Fans of last year's Celebrity Big Brother winner and former co-host of The Real, Tamar Braxton, were stunned when the star was rushed to the hospital after a possible suicide attempt while staying at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Los Angeles. While there's still been no confirmation that Braxton did attempt suicide, her boyfriend, YouTube channel host David Adefeso, is now speaking out to give fans an update on her condition.

According to The Blast, David Adefeso is the one who found Tamar Braxton unresponsive in her hotel room, telling police and EMTs that he believed she may have overdosed by combining some kind of prescription pills, which had been given to her to fight depression and anxiety, and alcohol. Adefeso's update makes it clear that Braxton is going through a tough time as she recovers, but has family and friends there for support:

This is an extremely difficult time for Tamar and her family as she navigates professional and personal struggles including her battle with depression. . . . Tamar is currently receiving the best available medical attention to address those struggles and strengthen her mental health, and her family and I will remain by her side throughout her treatment.

Adefeso called 911 around 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 16. After finding her and calling for help, he attempted to shake her awake and also checked her pulse until the paramedics arrived on the scene. When officials arrived at the hotel, he also told them that Braxton had been very emotional earlier in the day and threatened to commit suicide. While no note was found in her room, it appears that she sent her intention to attempt suicide to family members with a Tweet, which looks as though it was originally drafted to go public.

The former Dancing with the Stars competitor was treated for a possible suicide at a local hospital, and, once in stable condition, was transferred to a facility for more specialized treatment of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression and sexual assault trauma. Adefeso asked for fans' continued well-wishes, while also requesting that they respect Braxton's privacy as she recovers:

Please continue to send prayers and hope as Tamar continues the path to recovery and ultimate happiness. We ask to please respect Tamar’s privacy, and her family’s privacy, during this important time of healing.

The four-time Grammy Award nominee, who also has received two Emmy nominations for her work co-hosting the daytime talk show The Real from 2013 until 2016, had been co-hosting the YouTube series Coupled & Quarantined, with David Adefeso, and is also currently on the VH1 show To Catch a Beautician. Braxton is also appearing on a new WEtv docuseries, Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life!, which is set to debut on July 30.

Rumor has it that Braxton was not pleased with the recently released trailer for the WEtv series, especially with regards to the way it portrayed her. In addition, she's also been a part of Braxton Family Values with her mother and famous singing sisters since 2011, but has been trying to extricate herself from that contract, which is said to have put additional emotional strain on her.

The good news for now is that Tamar Braxton does seem to have the full support of her family and friends, along with that of her many fans, and appears to be getting the help she needs to recover, so there's hope that things will be better for the star before too long.
