Candace Cameron Bure has attracted millions of fans and built a nice career for herself toplining entertainment that plays well for the whole family. From Full House to the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries to her Hallmark Christmas movies, her projects attract a wide range of viewers with different perspectives, but they play particularly well and are often particularly well appreciated by Christians and other viewers who prefer less edgy and more wholesome entertainment. Unfortunately, a vocal minority of these fans can be, at times, a bit judgmental, and the beloved actress found herself on the wrong side of that judgment earlier this year when she posted a picture on Instagram of her husband with his arms around her and one hand on her clothed boob. Now, a few months later, she’s speaking out about what happened and most importantly, not backing down.

The actress and proud Christian made an appearance on the Confessions Of A Crappy Christian podcast earlier this week, and the two ladies had a frank and honest conversation about a wide variety of topics including the now famous photograph. During the chat, Candance Cameron Bure defended the picture and said she gets frustrated at the unwillingness of some in the Christian community to celebrate sex within a marriage. Here’s a portion of her quote…

I’ve been married for 24 years. I’m a Christian. My husband is a Christian. I’m really proud that we’ve managed to stay married for 24 years, and the fact that we have fun and we flirt together, this is part of what makes our marriage work and why I’m not bored. It’s something to be celebrated as a Christian. Sex doesn’t stop when you get married. Sex is the blessing of marriage. I hate when Christians are like, ‘No, you have to pretend like you’ve never had sex. We only know you’ve had sex 3 times because you have 3 children.’ Sometimes there’s a skew about sex within the Christian community that I get really sad about. If we are to promise ourselves for one another and preach saving yourself for marriage, then sex needs to be celebrated within marriage. It’s not to be shameful.

The picture in question was posted back in September to Bure’s Instagram story. According to her, she was hanging out with her family when she asked her husband, former NHL player Valeri Bure, to take some pictures. He put his arms around her for most of them, but for the last shot, he surprised her and reached his hand around and grabbed her boob. She thought the picture was funny and posted it to her Instagram Story. Almost immediately, however, she was hit with a huge response and numerous direct messages. Some comments were from supporters but many others were from followers who told her she needed to be more modest.

The topic of sex is always a bit of a taboo subject with many Christians. Even outside of the wait for marriage conversation, there are many who feel all talk about it should be kept private. Clearly Cameron Bure doesn’t feel that way. She thinks sex should be celebrated, and it’s nice to see her affirm and stand up for her perspective in a nice and thoughtful way when it probably would have been easier to back away from the conversation and not engage. As for her professional life, production on Hallmark movies was briefly paused because of the pandemic, but all involved are now back to work thanks to a mix of quarantining and using a bubble environment to keep everyone safe. Expect to see her in plenty of fun movies over the next year.
