If you're anything like me, it will seem a lot like Sweet Magnolias Season 1 debuted on Netflix at least a year ago. But, the fact is, it was only back in mid-May that the new romance-focused series premiered on the streamer and took all of our quarantines by storm. It felt like an interminable wait just to see whether or not Season 2 would be approved by Netflix, but now we are nearing five months since even that announcement, meaning that fans really want to know when new episodes will be available. Now, Sweet Magnolias' showrunner has an update on when Season 2 will be ready.
Sweet Magnolias helped a lot of us get through the late spring / early summer time as we were stuck at home. The small town romantic drama, which is based on author Sherryl Woods 11-book series, gave us a lot of soapy interactions, swoon-worthy relationships, familial strife and a lot of best-bud bonding to help tide us over. So, when will the show be back for Season 2 on Netflix? Here's what showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson told Parade when asked about whether or not filming has begun on the new installment:
We haven’t started shooting Season 2, yet. We want to get back to it as quickly as we can, but we are still working on the details. I don’t want to jinx it. We know it’s hard to wait, but we appreciate everyone’s patience and we are confident that we will take them places in Season 2 that will engage, delight and comfort them–maybe in that order.
Awww, man! Alright, I know that the news that Sweet Magnolias isn't yet filming for Season 2 isn't great, but we all know what's most important right now, and that's making sure that the entire cast and crew can get to work in as safe of an environment as possible. As Sheryl J. Anderson said, she and her team are trying to get back on set as fast as possible, but they have a lot of details to work out yet on how to do that in the best way.
I'm sure that whenever the new season gets here, we'll still need it to "engage, delight and comfort" us in whatever order it delivers those things to us.
The first season of Sweet Magnolias left viewers with several cliffhangers and romances up in the air, including one accident that could lead to some major changes when Season 2 rolls around. By the time the finale ended, we'd been given a breakup, a character who'd left town suddenly, a potential love triangle, big trouble for a couple of characters, and the promise of a whole new romance, so there will be a number of plots to dig into and (hopefully) clear up in one way or another as the new season unfolds.
As far as when we can finally set our (somewhat) impatient eyes on Season 2, Anderson said:
That’s hard to answer because we are still trying to figure out any precautions that need to be taken and how that will impact the pace of production. There are a lot of unknowns...The launch date is up to Netflix...But, right now, we have neither a release date nor a trailer.
