Over its 15-season run, Supernatural grew a massive following, forming a family-like bond. That translated over to the cast and crew of the long-running sci-fi drama. When a family member goes through troubling times, the Supernatural family proved they’ll come through in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, the family suffered a major loss recently. That’s where Supernatural alum Jared Padalecki came in. He decided to start a fundraiser for a “family member” who died of breast cancer.
The Walker star decided to help the family of actress Holli Dewees after she lost her cancer battle. Jared Padalecki wanted her husband and children with certain financial costs in the wake of her passing. So, he created a GoFundMe for the family. Padalecki took to the fundraising platform to ask for some help from Supernatural fans. The actor wrote on the page:
Hey, y’all. As some of you may have seen, one of our own #SPNFamily members has recently passed away from a brave battle with cancer. Holli Dewees was not only family, but a longtime volunteer with Random Acts. She worked to make so many lives better, and now we have an opportunity to take up her mantle and provide some help to the most important people in her life - her kids.
According to the Supernatural alum, Holli Dewees was not only a “family member” but an excellent philanthropist in her community. But now, it seemed her family needs as much love and care as she gave to charitable organizations. Of course, Jared Padalecki reassured donors their money is going directly to Dewees’ family.
All funds raised here will go directly to her husband and kids. Thank y’all so much for helping her family make it through this incredibly difficult time.
Jared Padalecki using his celebrity to help another person is very commendable. It seemed like the actress had a kind and loving heart for others. So, he wanted to make sure her family received that same love and kindness. Given the actor’s Hollywood status, some might question why he couldn’t help the family. But he might’ve given to her family before he started the fundraiser. The cost associated with a loved one’s death can become overwhelming so maybe her family needed the extra money to get over the hump.
After the fundraiser had surpassed its goal, Jared Padalecki came back to thank donors for supporting Holli Dewees’ family during this challenging time. The Walker star had planned on during a raffle for a chat with him, but according to him, GoFundMe wouldn’t permit such an event from happening. Padalecki revealed he was still willing to talk with donors as part of the original request.
Even after the series has ended, Jared Padalecki proved the bond in the Supernatural family is still strong.
