E3 2007: Little Big Planet Steals Day 2

I don’t even know what to think anymore. This morning when I woke up and found Metal Gear Solid 4 on the local press wire I was sure I had found my video of the show. Then Halo Wars showed up and rocked my world again. Now I’ve just set my eyes on a new trailer for Little Big Planet and I am completely lost in a lake of my own adoration.

I was watching this and was blown away by the fantastically adaptable physics engine. Pretty much the best applied physics I’ve ever seen in action (in-game.) Then things ramp up into the state of being insane when the creative process comes in and the players controlling the action create some seriously cool stuff in the blink of an eye. The thing I like most about it is that it shows the creation of simple things that the average everyday person might actually create. Normally with a game like this, they would show the most absurdly awesome creation you’d ever set eyes on and then have a tag line that says, “you too can create s*** this bombastic!” Only it wouldn’t be bleeped out because game companies are vulgar. This succeeds because it shows how much fun you probably will have with the level creator. This way when you actually get your hands on it, you don’t end up feeling stupid and useless like a normal level creator makes you feel (Editor's Note: *cough* World Craft *cough*). Instead you’ll feel like you’re dicking around with some toys.
