EA: Actiblizzard Can't Compete

Head honcho of EA Sports, Peter Moore, has served Activision Blizzard and now it’s on. Moore recently said that the merged giant ”can’t compete with us.” Bold words sir, even if they might be a bit true. Although maybe Moore hadn’t checked the NPD’s and glanced at who has the biggest titles of 2007, because I’m pretty sure Call of Duty 4 and Guitar Hero were not published by EA.

Despite claiming that the EA titles are still cleaning house in sales, Moore did acknowledge the Sports games need to diversify a bit. ”We need to globalise, and we're taking many steps to broaden the appeal of our product portfolio," he told MCV. EA Sports is looking to evolve into something that has a better casual appeal, while still maintaining the current hard-core sports gamers.

Moore also discussed critical claims that the EA Sports brand isn’t innovative any more, stating that those who say this probably haven’t played the games. Or maybe we have played them…about 5 years ago. "It's easy to be criticized when you're on top, but we are getting high marks both critically and commercially across our portfolio." Yeah, the way we hear it things have gone the opposite direction critically for EA.
