If you've finished Fable 2 and/or Fallout 3 and you're worried what you'll be doing with all that pesky free time, Square Enix has just what you need. They've shot out a press release reminding everyone that their newest RPG Last Remnant will be released simultaneously in Japan, North America, and Europe on November 20th for Xbox 360.
The announcement touts the fact that Remnant received a 38/40 from Japanese mag Famitsu. That is pretty impressive, by the way - unlike most websites/magazines that fellate every first-person shooter that has good lighting (by the way, go buy Gears of War 2!), Famitsu is a bit stingy with its top scores. Not sure how many games have racked up 38's but only 25 games have every gotten 39's or 40's. So Last Remnant is should be pretty solid, at least if you're a Square-phile.
The story doesn't sound all that different from what you'd expect. Players control an 18-year-old swordsman who goes on a journey to rescue his sister from some evil army. The game's large scale, turn-based combat system sounds interesting, though. Your main character apparently commands his own small army (known as a "union"). There's no random encounters and it uses Unreal Engine 3, so yay on both counts. I'm not putting forth my "A" game in selling this to you because I'm skeptical it'll manage to break the extremely restrictive JRPG mold but we'll see.
