Ubisoft's annual sales report, released yesterday, revealed that a sequel to Wii first-person shooter Red Steel was in development. Today Ubisoft officially announced Red Steel 2 and revealed a few details on it.

The game will utilize the Wiimote's motion-sensing for melee and ranged combat as the original did. Red Steel 2 will take things a step further though, adding Wii MotionPlus support to allow for more precise control of your weapons. The press releases notes that this will be the first Ubisoft game to fully utilize MotionPlus.

Red Steel 2 will be developed by Ubisoft Paris, who also did the first game. It'll be released during the 2009 holiday season. Ubisoft's launched a but the only thing on it is a link to register for the mailing list.
