Tonight marks the end of the sci-fi MMORPG Tabula Rasa. Rather than just shutting the game down at midnight, though, NCSoft is throwing one final blowout for the remaining players.

An announcement posted on the official TR website outlined the game's final event, a heroic last defense against alien invaders: "We request that all military personnel begin fortifying defenses at every AFS base in preparation for a massive Bane assault. If enemy troop movements are as large as we fear, and the Neph are truly prepared to lead all out war against us, this may be our last stand. Penumbra has been informed of the situation and is standing by on the use of their last resort weapon. We can not afford to be complacent or uncertain, but if it is truly our destiny to be destroyed, we are taking them all with us."

Penumba's "last resort weapon", a huge bomb from the sound of it, is presumably an in-game way of explaining the server shutdown. The attack should have commenced at the time of this writing and will probably last up until the servers go down for the last time at midnight. The game launched on November 2nd, 2007.
