There aren’t many MMORPGs out there that focus heavily on underwater combat due to the amount of animation readjustment and the complexities of moving around in a free space while battling other players and monsters from just about any angle. Well, ArenaNet has confirmed that underwater combat will play a big part in the upcoming Guild Wars 2, and they dished out a ton of new details regarding the exploration, the breathing apparatus, as well as some of the dungeons and monsters you’ll face off against.
According to MMOSite, Guild Wars 2 will allow groups of players to venture underwater to complete quests, train and battle vicious foes…including a shark that will more than likely attempt to bite your face off. To prevent the water segments from seeming contrived, there will be no breathing limit or “hold your breath” bar like in some games. Instead, players will simply have a breathing apparatus with them once they enter the watery dungeons and will be able to explore without any breathing inhibitions. Combat is a really fascinating aspect of the underwater gameplay because there are nautical-specific weapons such as spears, tridents and even harpoon guns that will be at the player’s disposal. How cool is it having the option of going spear-hunting with a group of friends or hunting sharks with harpoon guns? Uber cool.
