Apple issued a major update to iOS 4 today. Update 4.1 can be downloaded through iTunes.

iOS 4.1 adds support for HDR photography as well as HD video uploads. You'll be able to watch commercial-free TV shows through your iPhone for $.99 an episode thanks to the new iTunes rental store. iTunes Ping adds a social element to your listening; you can follow your favorite artists and find out what your friends are listening to.

Most importantly for gamers, though, iOS 4.1 introduces Game Center. Game Center allows multiplayer gaming with friends or with strangers via matchmaking. Achievements and online leaderboards add an additional bit of competition.
