3 New Ant-Man Images Show The Marvel Hero In Action

Ant-Man is blowing up! No, really. That's kind of his thing, to change his size. Ahead of the film's release this July, Marvel released a batch of new photos from their next superhero extravaganza. While most of them are pretty meh, there are a few that showcase Ant-Man leaping, standing and squatting into action. Check 'em out.

Ant-Man centers on Paul Rudd's Scott Lang, a reformed master thief who has been enlisted by the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), to use his unique skill set to steal back his size-shrinking tech from the opposition, Darren Cross (Corey Stoll). Lots of new characters will be added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne, the daughter of Pym. As we've seen previously in the trailers, the suit also gives Scott Lang the ability to communicate and control ants, his best allies.

Cross will eventually become the villain Yellowjacket, after his ambitions to market the Pym tech turns deadly, leading to some more shenanigans for the Marvel hero. The one scene involving an epic fight sequence on top of a Thomas the Tank Engine train set looks particularly delectable. Then there are also moments like Dyne punching Rudd in the face and the actor trying to be all serious with his enemy while touting a name like Ant-Man.

Marvel found huge success in bringing the Guardians of the Galaxy to life on the big screen. Even though they were a team of virtually unknown characters to mainstream audiences, director-screenwriter James Gunn was able to put his own spin on things to everyone's delight. However, with Edgar Wright dropping out of Ant-Man over creative differences with the studio, it's difficult to predict the outcome for this movie. Peyton Reed stepped in to direct the film, and by the looks of these new photos, especially the one with Ant-Man standing in an ant hole in the ground, it seems to maintain the sense of humor required of a movie called Ant-Man.

Ant-Man will hit theaters on July 17, though that won't be the last we see of him. Lang will arise again in Captain America: Civil War, along with just about every other Marvel movie character. He's also expected to have a large part to play in Phase 3, which features standalone movies for Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man in leading up to the two-part Avengers: Infinity War.
