Is The Wachowskis' Secret Iraq Project About A Hardcore Gay Romance?

You may remember that Arianna Huffington, of all people, set the movie blogging world into a frenzy last December when she posted photos of a shoot she did with Lana and Andy Wachowski, for a "movie on Iraq from the perspective of the future." It was the first anyone had heard of the project, and no one could figure out what on earth the project was, or why they had Arianna Huffington putting on some crazy hair extensions to be interviewed.

The mystery is mostly still intact, but Deadline Hollywood's Mike Fleming has gotten his hands on plot details of a new Wachowskis project, "a drama that focuses on a 'hard R' homosexual relationship between a U.S. soldier and an Iraqi. It's a cinema verite-style treatment that begins in the near future and then spans back over years that include the current war in Iraq."

Well, Arianna sure didn't mention anything about a gay relationship, but otherwise this sounds very much like the project she was hinting at last winter. Fleming says the Wachowskis only recently finished the script and want to direct it next, which makes it a little confusing that they would have shot footage with Huffington already. But really, could they be eyeing two different films involving Iraq and the future? For now the only logical assumption seems to be that Huffington will be part of a film that will really, really piss off the military and the right wing. We can't wait to see how this turns out.
