What Charlie Cox Thinks Of Sigourney Weaver’s Defenders Casting

Daredevil, Defenders

Once Iron Fist wraps up, it'll finally be time for The Defenders, Netflix's big superhero crossover. The miniseries will unite Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist to face a threat big enough to warrant such a team up. That villain will be played by Sigourney Weaver, which is enough to get anyone excited. Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), is especially excited to get to work and share some scenes with the famed actress.

In an interview with the San Antonio Current, Charlie Cox talked about a variety of subjects including his experience playing Daredevil and what his newborn baby was going to be for Halloween. When asked what he felt about Sigourney Weavers casting in The Defenders, Cox had nothing but praise for her, and felt that acting alongside her would be a highlight of his career.

You know, when she came on stage with us at New York Comic Con, I wanted to say, 'In Hell's Kitchen, no one hears you scream.' I don't think it gets better than Sigourney Weaver. I think we are immensely lucky to have her. It's a testament to shows like Daredevil and Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. The quality of those shows have drawn someone of her caliber, which is very exciting for us. I can't wait to read it and have a scene with her. It's one of the experiences I'll probably remember for the rest of my career.

The identity of Weaver's mysterious villain is still unknown, but the announcement of her casting at New York Comic Con elicited a roar of approval from the audience. It only increased the hype for the upcoming series, and you can't blame Charlie Cox for fanboying over getting to share the screen with Ripley.

Charlie Cox makes an interesting point that this superhero nerdgasm was able to attract such a big talent like Sigourney Weaver. It only speaks not only for the high quality of these Netflix shows, but also the evolution of the superhero genre in general. Who would have thought even 10 years ago that Anthony Hopkins or Will Smith would be signing on to play these roles? When it comes to the production, the Netflix superhero shows are some of the best on television, and it looks like it's only attracting bigger and bigger talent. Before you know it Daniel Day-Lewis is going to be cast as Silver Surfer.

We don't know much about The Defenders right now. Daredevil seems to have teased a foreboding supernatural plot in its second season that might be picked up in Defenders, but that's only speculation. In addition, S.J. Clarkson will take up directing duties for the first two episodes of the eight-episode series.

The Defenders does not have a release date, but it will begin filming later this year for a 2017 release date. In the meantime we can check out Iron Fist, which will hit Netflix on March 17, 2017.
