It’s time to take to the skies and blow your enemies into tiny, flaming pieces as Firaxis and 2K announce the official launch of Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol for iOS. To recap: Planes, strategy, make things go boom, iOS, now.
At this point, Sid Meier is pretty synonymous with the strategy genre, so it should come as no surprise that his latest game manages to turn aerial combat into a similar affair, tasking players with outmaneuvering and outthinking the enemy in order to, well, you know, blow up blimps and stuff.
We announced earlier this moneht that Ace Patrol would be launching on iOS soon and, making good on their word in less than a week, 2K and Firaxis have unleashed the game upon the masses as of this morning.
Based on World War I air combat, players can “relive history as they pilot the skies in defense of their base camp and allies,” according to a statement from the publishers. As team leader, your job is to lead a patrol of ace pilots (Oh, now the name makes sense!) into battle through various missions set in the skies over Europe. While directing your team members, you’ll also be constantly in charge of upgrading skills, improving your aircraft, etc.
Ace Patrol features 30 historical aircrafts and more than 120 missions to fly through. You’ll get to build your own team from scratch, picking members with unique abilities and stats. There’s a turn-based single player campaign, as well as two player “Hot-Pad” play (pass the iPad back and forth) or asynchronous multiplayer through Game Center.
