Fans have been wishing and hoping for a third Left 4 Dead game to complete the trilogy for years, but there has been hardly a whisper about such a thing---until now. A recent screenshot taken during a tutorial by Valve artist Tristan Reidford shows a folder on the left side of the picture reading "left4dead3."
Some people are saying it's possible this tease was on purpose because of how perfect the folder name is lined up with the top of the screen. But it could also very well be a mistake. The screenshot comes from a Valve fan site called ValveTime, and has reported that the image has been photoshopped to cover up the mistake, but ValveTime did manage to capture the image seen above before the photoshopping.
This isn't the first time Left 4 Dead 3 has popped up in conversation, either. Websites like Express claim that the four characters for the new sequel have already been decided, with the female being named Katherine and the three male characters named "gangster Irvin, comic book nerd Keenan and famous Kenpo fighter Garrett Jr." They also claim that there will also be six playable campaigns in Left 4 Dead 3. They are also saying Left 4 Dead 3 won't be a sequel at all, but a prequel, although there's no hard evidence as to where they are getting their information, just "reports."
However, ValveTime did some digging and was able to find that employees at Valve have been spending a lot of time recently playing Left 4 Dead 2. They found that on Reidford's Steam profile, he's put in 343 hours of Left 4 Dead 2 in the past couple weeks. That's A LOT of Left 4 Dead. So maybe he's been gearing up for Left 4 Dead 3 and studying the previous game to gain insight? Or maybe the guy just really, really likes playing Left 4 Dead 2.
I used to play Left 4 Dead 2 way back in college and I loved every second of it. I loved the campaigns and I greatly enjoyed the online multiplayer, even though it was easy for people to be horrible to you. I'd love to see the series introduce a prequel, so that we could understand how exactly Left 4 Dead's zombie apocalypse happened. I also wouldn't mind a straight-up sequel just because I love the series so much. It's really hard to go wrong with Left 4 Dead 3, so all that's left now is to keep waiting. Let's just hope it's not more years before we get some sort of official confirmation of Left 4 Dead 3.
