New details have emerged for Konami's plans to re-release Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes in a bundle pack. This contains both previously released games, all of the DLC and the Metal Gear Online expansion.
Polygon is reporting that the news first started leaking out earlier this morning but Konami caught the leak by the horns and did an official announcement about the bundle pack over on their official website.
The pack contains both versions of Metal Gear Solid V, along with the Metal Gear Online multiplayer component and DLC for all versions of the game. That's right, you get the two additional missions for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, as well as four weapon packs for The Phantom Pain, four additional shields, nine costume packs, two different outfits for D-Horse, three additional cardboard boxes, a gold bionic arm, a "Venom Snake" emblem, and four additional Mother Base staff.
There are also some extras packed into the Metal Gear Online experience, including four Appeal Packs, two weapons, a Metal Gear Rex helmet, and the Cloaked In Silence expansion pack.
All of this content will be bundled into one package that is set to release for gaming platforms starting October 11th, 2016. This will be available at retail for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 for $49.99. That's technically not that bad a price given all the content included, but I doubt pricing and the amount of content is what's going to keep some gamers away.
As for the Steam version, they note that pricing and content details will be revealed at a later date. So we don't exactly know how much it's going to cost on PC and what all you'll be getting.
The major issue that Konami will face is that fans will be out in droves to protest the game given that Konami shut down Kojima Productions and fired Hideo Kojima. Worse yet is that they began removing his name from his products and even barred him from receiving an award at last year's The Game Awards.
The tension between Kojima and Konami was quite palpable, but the legendary game designer eventually moved on and has begun working with the remade, rebuilt and reformed Kojima Productions on the upcoming Death Stranding. A game that's receiving tons of hype and it hasn't even entered into full production yet.
Konami, alternatively, will be supplementing Metal Gear fans both with the upcoming bundle and a new cooperative shooter game called Metal Gear: Survive. The new zombie-like survival title has not been well received amongst the gaming community, and Konami has found themselves feeling the full wrath of Kojima's fans. It will be very interesting to see how well the upcoming bundle pack sells this October, because they'll not only have to deal with the fan backlash but also the release of The Coalition and Microsoft's Gears of War 4 for the Xbox One and Windows 10, which will be releasing on the very same day.
