It can be fun creating a lot of havoc in Watch Dogs 2 all by your lonesome but, starting today, players will be able to join their friends for some seamless multiplayer antics, with the game incorporating some pretty nifty features to let hackers the world over connect.

If you're playing Watch Dogs 2 on the PlayStation 4, then you can go ahead and enjoy the game's multiplayer functionality right now. Ubisoft announced via press release that multiplayer went live on Sony's home console at 8 a.m. Pacific. If, however, you're playing on the Xbox One, then your wait shouldn't be much longer. The seamless multiplayer functionality was set to go live in the early afternoon. We haven't seen any reports of it being live as of this writing, however, so just hold tight and keep checking for updates.

At this point, you might be asking yourself, why do they keep calling it "seamless" multiplayer. Well, that's because the majority of online fun in Watch Dogs 2 can be orchestrated without needing to drop into a special mode. We've seen this done in other games, but it makes a heck of a lot of sense for a big open-world game like WD2. From your in-game phone, you can invite your pals to join your game or search for new people to mess around with. If you'd rather take a more intrusive route, you can also try to invade a rival hacker's world similar to, say, Dark Souls. You can also use your phone to find Bounty Hunts or trigger a bounty yourself.

So how does the game determine who has a bounty on their head? Well, that's all based on how much mischief you're causing. According to Ubisoft, if a player "causes too much chaos" in the city, the SFPD will put a bounty on the player. If that happens, then your world opens up for bounty hunters to come in and help the police bring you to justice.

This is only the beginning, however. According to the announcement, the developers will keep a close eye on the online functionality as is and, when the time is right, they'll be rolling out even more features in the future. For starters, a future update plans for players who are nearby to literally seamlessly drop into the world of rival Prime_Eight players or bounties, without needing to use the in-game phone. You might even run into a friendly player around town who can then be brought in to help out on various Dedsec events.

So, if you're feeling lonely in Watch Dogs 2, then today is your day to make some new friends and enemies.
