Respawn Entertainment is following through with their promise of free DLC for Titanfall 2. It's part of the new business model to keep the community strong and to enforce gamers to join in on the fun without feeling left out. The DLC will even be here before you know it.
According to the Titanfall 2 blog, you can expect the first DLC to arrive at the end of the month on November 30th. The content will feature the first free multiplayer map in the form of Angel City from the original Titanfall. This new map will be available starting November 30th for everyone who pre-ordered Titanfall 2 and it will launch for everyone else just a few days later on December 3rd.
The map will be accompanied by the new Wingman Elite Pistol, along with brand new Titan Kits. This includes the new Ion Refraction Lens kit that comes with the Splitter Rifle, or the Scorch's Scorched Earth Kit that features a Flame Core that burns through the ground leaving a thermite trail in its wake. For those of you who played through Titanfall 2's campaign mode, you may remember that the Flame Core was used in one of the first boss fights in the game when BT and Cooper went to save some of their comrades trapped in the processing facility. The first thing that came to mind was that the thermite wave would be absolutely vicious in multiplayer and wreck tons of people. So it's cool to see that kit make its way to the Scorch.
The Northstar gets the Threat Optics kit, which features the ability to highlight enemies on the map while zooming in. The Tone will have a Burst Loader Kit as part of the new free DLC update. The Burst Loader allows gamers to aim the 40mm cannon and fire up to three-shorts in burst fire mode.
Legion will get a Hidden Compartment Kid that allows for a two charge power shot, and Ronin will get the Phase Reflex kit that -- when facing immediate destruction -- allows Ronin to phase out of the fight.
Speaking of phasing, the Titanfall 2 DLC will include a new pilot execution in the form of phasing into people and killing them, just like in the older Doom games when you could teleport onto people and turn them into a gib sandwich.
With the introduction of free DLC for Titanfall 2 there's also the introduction of the new cash shop store. They make it known during the blog post that gamers will not have to pay for weapons, Titans or maps, and that all of those will be released free. What gamers will have to pay for are new skins, cosmetic items and visual customizations for the pilots and Titans.
Respawn is using an identical DLC model that Ubisoft has employed for Rainbow Six: Siege. In the case of Rainbow Six, the game has actually grown and stabilized its daily active user base, which is absolutely unheard of for an AAA retail product. Usually the DAUs only grow for shooter games and multiplayer titles when they're free-to-play or they're multiplayer focused for e-sports, such as Counter-Strike, Overwatch or Halo during the mid-aughts.
You can expect to get your hands on the new DLC for Titanfall 2 on the final week of November if pre-ordered the game. For those who didn't pre-order the game, expect to gain access to the DLC at the end of next week on December 3rd.
