It looks like NetherRealms managed to keep a pretty great secret. The Injustice 2 developer recently announced the next batch of DLC characters and, alongside the expected Raiden and Black Manta, it looks like the demonic Hellboy will also be joining the fight. Take a look.

Injustice 2, being a modern fighting game, means that nobody was surprised when NetherRealms announced that a season pass of DLC characters would be made available. Also, since the game's roster is strong right out of the gate, nobody really complained about the fact that another nine combatants would be introduced to the game over time. There's also the fact that Injustice 2 is one of the best fighting games ever made, boasting a solid campaign mode and a metric ton of modes and content for dedicated players to sink an untold number of hours into; so, yeah, more of a good thing is never bad.

Shortly after revealing the first trio of DLC characters, including Red Hood, Sub-Zero (of Mortal Kombat fame) and Starfire, the developer revealed silhouettes for the remaining DLC characters to be eventually added to the game. It also became clear that these fighter packs would be released in groups of three.

The thing about silhouettes is that they can also just be placeholders used to throw off folks trying to guess who might be added to the game next. In other words, when what was clearly a shadowy image of another Mortal Kombat character, Raiden, and an underwater DC villain, Black Manta, popped up, nobody could be certain that they were going to be added to the roster.

The trailer above wipes away all doubt now, though, with both Raiden and Black Manta gearing up to face off in the world of Injustice 2. But while their silhouettes were pretty obvious in the teasers, quite a few were harder to identify. It turns out one of those was this group of fighters' big surprise reveal, Hellboy.

Non-comic fans have probably still at least heard of Hellboy, who was perfectly portrayed by Ron Perlman in a pair of Guillermo del Toro films. There's also a remake film in the works, so this was pretty good timing to bring the beloved big red guy to the Injustice squad.

Sadly, this was only a reveal trailer, so we still haven't seen any of these three characters in action yet. That's kind of to be expected, though. Each will likely get their own reveal as we get closer to their individual launch dates. We assume NetherRealm will keep the same pace as with the previous three DLC characters, with someone new hitting the game about every four weeks or so.
