The latest free game through Twitch Prime is actually brand new, with members being able to play Pikuniku before it can be purchased on other platforms.
Twitch Prime has turned out to be a rather fantastic perk for folks who enjoy playing games as much as they enjoy watching other people play them. Similar to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold, Twitch Prime grants folks a rotating roster of free games on a regular basis. If you subscribe to Prime, you can just grab the games at no additional cost.
For a very limited window (through January 23) you can actually grab the charming puzzle game, Pikuniku, before it's even available to purchase on other platforms. If you're a Prime subscriber, you can just pop into the free content page while logged in, claim your copy and start playing it right this very minute. Honestly, not a bad way to build buzz around your indie game in this crowded winter season.
Coming from Devolver Digital, Pikuniku tasks players with making other people happy by exploring and solving puzzles. What, exactly, does that entail? Well, according to the game's description, you'll be doing everything from helping folks face their fears to uncovering a deep state conspiracy. So, yeah, the game sounds like it's a bit on the wild side.
If you miss out on the early access period, you'll still be able to claim Pikuniku via Twitch Prime through Feb. 28. The only difference is that, after the early access period, you won't be able to brag that you're playing a game you can't even buy elsewhere yet. The game officially launches on PC and Switch this Thursday, Jan. 24, and it's already getting rave reviews from various outlets.
Speaking of the Switch, Pikuniku actually already made an appearance of sorts, as it was one of the featured T-shirts available in the Nintendo-exclusive action game Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes. If you have enough in-game dough, you can purchase the shirt and have Travis Touchdown or Badman wear it while beating up bugs invading various video games.
Outside of Pikuniku, Twitch Prime actually has a killer lineup of free games still available through Jan. 31. Hyper Light Drifter and Orwell are in the mix, but the big standout is the Devolver Digital Holiday Pack. That pack boasts seven games including Hotline Miami and Hotline Miami 2, Broforce, STRAFE, Crossing Souls, The Swords of Ditto and The Messenger. Not a bad collection at all, especially since The Messenger only came out a couple of months ago.
